Why Brisbane Airport is predicting a ‘very busy’ Friday morning
Travellers have faced 50 minute delays at Brisbane Airport’s international terminal this week, due to technical issues processing passengers.
The upgrade at the Immigration SmartGates are the checkpoints that process travellers’ passports using facial recognition technology.
But passengers travelling overseas tomorrow morning are being warned it will be a particularly busy morning in the Friday peak.
“Border Force has been upgrading the inbound SmartGates at Brisbane Airport and they have just had some technical challenges, it’s meant that the gates haven’t been working as they had hoped and they have been reverting to manual processes,” head of public affairs at the Brisbane Airport Corporation Stephen Beckett explained.
He said there were queues of up to 50 minutes in the busiest times, and warned tomorrow will be particularly busy.
They’re expecting 12,000 passengers through the international terminal tomorrow, and 50,000 domestically.
“We are recommending arrive three hours for your departure, just to make sure, tomorrow in particular is going to be very, very busy up until midday.”
