Why Choppy Close isn’t on board for Latrell Mitchell’s showboating push

A rugby league legend has hosed down Latrell Mitchell’s push for his fellow players to bring more showboating to the game to “sell tickets”.

The Souths star this week vowed he’d continue to “put on a show” as his team’s season goes on the line, urging teammates to also “come out of their shell”.

“We sell tickets for people to come and watch,” he said. “That is what this game has to start realising: we are entertainers as well.”

But Chris ‘Choppy’ Close isn’t convinced showing off at the try line is for everyone in the game.

“If you’re like Tedesco, one of the greatest players in the game, that’s not how he celebrates,” he told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

“I don’t think anybody should be asked to interchange it, particularly in the middle of his game, to sell the game.

“I just think it’s up to the individual.”
