Why Neil Breen is imploring everyone to follow the Hannah Clarke inquest
It’s painful to read the harrowing accounts of Hannah Clarke and her three children’s deaths but it’s a story everyone must engage in, Neil Breen says.
Hannah and her children, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey were killed after her estranged husband set them alight on their way to school.
An inquest into their deaths yesterday heard devastating accounts from neighbours who witnessed the tragedy unfold on a suburban Camp Hill street in 2020.
“I just simply couldn’t read them all,” Neil said. “I put them to the side – the details were just too shocking.
“It is difficult to engage in, but engage in it we must, or else it will happen again.
“I would implore that every police officer in the state reads every word published about it.
“I would implore that every judicial officer reads every word about it.”
“We’ve got to stop men doing this. In most cases, it’s men – we have to face the facts.
“He had a problem, Rowan Baxter, and unfortunately Hannah and the three kids were dead before society got to the bottom of it.”

Today reporter Jess Millward told Neil Breen a ‘big part’ of the story is about coercive control.
“Hannah’s parents want coercive control to be a criminal offence and it will be here in Queensland over the next 12 to 18 months.
“Partners don’t have to be physical to be abusive.”
