Why Peter Psaltis isn’t ‘blowing up’ over opening Test snub
Fans shouldn’t despair after Perth snared the opening Test of the upcoming summer of cricket, Peter Psaltis says.
While the Gabba traditionally hosts the opening Test, Perth and Adelaide matches have been pushed earlier to avoid clashing with the Big Bash League.
“You’re going to hear a lot of people blowing up about this one but I don’t think people should be,” Psalty said.
Instead, Brisbane has scored the opener in a three-Test series against South Africa to be played in mid-December.
“That is outstanding,” he said. “I’d be sitting here and on Wide World of SportsĀ blowing up if we missed out on South Africa.
“We deserve to get that Test series. That is going to be fantastic, that one.”
The series will be the first Australia plays against South Africa since the infamous Sandpapergate scandal in 2018.
“So don’t get too caught up in the ‘we’ve lost our first Test of the summer’, get excited that we’ve got South Africa coming here and we’re going to play the first Test of that series.”
