It’ll be some time before frozen chips are back in your local supermarket’s freezers, Queensland’s peak grower industry body is warning.

Supermarket giant Coles has been forced to bring in a two-item buying limit on frozen potato products but it’s done little to keeping the shelves stocked.

Rachel Chambers from Growcom told Laurel, Gary & Mark the shortage has been on its way for some time.

“If you cast your mind back a year ago, what was happening is that unpredictable weather situation where we had unforeseen rain,” she said.

“What happened is it coincided with planting season. The growers weren’t able to either plant, or when they were planted, they were washed out.”

While new produce should become available soon, Queensland isn’t exactly at the front of the line.
