Australian Special Forces troops accused of Afghanistan war crimes will not be investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC will instead focus on investigating alleged crimes committed by the Taliban and the Islamic State Khorasan Province.

The Brereton inquiry into allegations of war crimes by Australian Special Forces identified 39 murders against civilians and prisoners by up to 19 Australian troops.

Ray Hadley suggests the Australian government follow the lead of the ICC.

“You ask men and women to go to those theatres of war and do the bidding of politicians and then you come home and the politicians tut tut and say ‘let’s charge them all, they’re all murdering bastards’.

“It’s just not right and never will be right.”
