A new survey has revealed some interesting trends about Valentine’s Day, and why Australians are increasingly turning away from marking the day.

Australian Retailer’s Association and Roy Morgan teamed up to survey over 2,500 Australians about what they were looking to spend money on this Valentine’s Day.

“It looks like up here in Queensland, we will part with $107 million across the weekend and today, lots of chocolates and wines and dinners out … but what was really interesting in that data was about 81 per cent of us don’t intend to celebrate Valentine’s Day,” QUT retail expert Gary Mortimer said.

He suggested the shine was wearing off a bit, although Queensland appeared to be the “most romantic state” looking to spend more and mark the day, more so than people in other states!
