Why traffic in Brisbane could get worse this financial year
A raft of costs are set to rise as the new financial year begins but the impacts could be diabolical for the city’s roads.
Road fines and parking prices are taking a hike while toll roads will see a whopping six per cent rise.
Griffith University Professor Matt Burke told Spencer Howson traffic is likely to get worse as drivers change their behaviours to cut costs.
“We’re going to see people stick to the surface routes, avoid the underground routes,” he said.
“Remembering the tunnels were built for congestion-busting – we actually wanted to free up the surface roads.”
