‘You’re going to kill the Davis Cup’: John Newcombe slams radical tennis plan
Tennis leaders are preparing to vote on an overhaul of the historic Davis Cup competition.
If approved by the International Tennis Federation, 18 nations will play in a week-long, World Cup-style event at the end of the year.
Legend of the sport, and former Davis Cup captain, John Newcombe tells Alan Jones this would “kill the Davis Cup”.
“The ITF currently have 60 per cent of the votes but they need two-thirds to get the vote across the line.
“It’s going to be very, very tight.
“My feeling is that they won’t quite get it across the line.”
