Breach of bail will be reintroduced as a criminal offence for youth offenders in Queensland, the Palaszczuk government has confirmed.

9 News senior reporter Tim Arvier says it’s an extraordinary development, given numerous Ministers in the government have labelled the policy as ineffective.

But he says the government is increasingly under pressure from the community to act on youth justice.

“The government obviously doesn’t really believe this policy works, so why are they doing it? The only reason they are doing it is because they are panicking.”

There will be more details when parliament resumes tomorrow.
